While our main goal at the Wheeling Housing Authority is always to provide affordable housing and safe communities in Ohio County, we also strive to enrich the lives of those we serve through our various programs. - The Resident Services Department is important at the Wheeling Housing Authority as it offers many activities and services for the people who live in our communities.
Our Family Self-Sufficiency Program is a voluntary program that helps families improve their economic situation, so they don't have to depend on public assistance. If a family chooses to participate, they will work with a case worker to develop a five-year plan. This plan includes employment goals while also identifying training or educational needs that may be required to meet those goals.
Through the FSS program an individual would be able to work closely with their case worker to earn a GED, high school diploma, or other certifications leading to gainful employment. Many have gone beyond that to things like college coursework, pay raises, and even promotions at work to include full benefits.
Participants in our program are proof that with the right resources anyone can work to find economic independence.
All of our high rises provide many opportunities designed specifically for our senior residents. Each property hosts health fairs, educational seminars, fire safety programs, vaccine clinics, recreational activities, and more. All of these opportunities are posted in the buildings as well as in a newsletter that each of our residents receive.
Additionally we have an on-site Resident Opportunity & Support Services (ROSS) Coordinator. Our ROSS Coordinator works to help residents get needed social services to maintain their independent living status.
Our goal is to improve the quality of life in our high rises and to link Senior Residents with existing services in the community.
For many years the Wheeling Housing Authority has offered educational and recreational activities to our children, both on-site and in partnership with area agencies and organizations.
All of our properties are located on Ohio County School bus lines, and our family oriented communities all have playgrounds nearby or even right in the backyard! Most recently, we participated in a USDA Summer Meals program offered through the school system ensuring our children received the same quality meals they received during the school year.
Each property has a Site Manager that shares a calendar of events, including those opportunities for Youth Involvement.
Once you move in, you are family, so we want to make sure we offer you as much support as we can through additional Amenities.
